Prompted by my friend Nicholas being in nearby Annecy for a week of concerts with his UK orchestra, and coinciding with Juan doing a runner from CH on 1 August - the Swiss national bank holiday, the three of us slogged up the Mont Granier, Nicholas protesting that he would never be able to make the 700m of ascent. Of course he could. It was in fact
me who had the blood-sugar crisis at 12h on the dot and who had to swim or die when we came down again.
A lovely day, reconnecting with Nicholas - and the mountains at their lushest.

The original plan had been to picnic by a lake. Changing to having lunch on the walk meant Nicholas carrying a bottle of white wine and ice packs all the way up. Worth every calorie of effort. |
